Used i5-8600 (non-K) or Ryzen 5 1600 AF?
Used i5-8600 (non-K) or Ryzen 5 1600 AF?
Hello, I've chosen to purchase a CPU from the used market because it's significantly more affordable than buying a new one. I found these CPUs at a reasonable price but had trouble picking the best one for me. I'm looking for improved single-core performance as well. The workloads will mainly use the CPU models Primere Pro, Photoshop, Media Encoder, and a few single-player AAA FPS games such as Far Cry 5 and Metro Exodus.
It's a 6-core/12-thread CPU. Pure 6-core i5 models often struggle with performance because they lack sufficient threads, especially when multitasking beyond just the game.
High-performance single and multi-core processors available, capable of overclocking with XMP and PBO settings. Optimal results on a suitable motherboard such as the B450 with Ryzen 5000 BIOS, enabling significant upgrades up to a 16-core/32-thread R9 5950X configuration.
This option stands out as the superior selection in all aspects.
IK, I'm providing the highest achievable upgrade route, not a recommended one.
1600AF performs well at times and can be slightly lower at other times compared to the i5-8600; most games won’t show a significant gap either way. 1600AE is quite poor—avoid it. Its IPC is far inferior to both, and in 2021 you shouldn’t invest in anything with Haswell-level performance. From my perspective, Ryzen chips often excel in single-core tests but don’t match their real-world results.
