By default, source games run with three threads if multi-threading is turned on. You can adjust this setting yourself. From what I've noticed, the games actually benefit from these additional threads, which helps me achieve higher FPS on my laptop when I set it to four instead of three. I'll adjust the settings to 24 threads and observe the outcome.
