The size isn't determined by a minimum requirement but by other constraints or calculations.

I only need at least that much memory because it ensures stability even when usage is low.

It seems like you're hoping for a significant performance boost, as the current version 1.9 is quite outdated. Minecraft might actually function better with a much more optimized release.

I'll wait for Optifine since I want all the cool sliders at their best.

Following the acquisition of Mojang, my laptop performance dropped significantly—from high settings at 60 FPS to a mid-range setting at 45 FPS, accompanied by annoying lag spikes. That was the main reason I stopped playing Minecraft.

That's what happened. I ran 4gigs on the client. I reinstalled the operating system, but I don’t believe upgrading my PC would make a difference.

I believe Minecraft 1.8.8 behaves more like a dog in terms of resource consumption, the code is quite poor, and there are numerous temporary objects in the game (you can check this in the F3 tab under 'Allocated memory usage'). Many modders have stopped attempting to modify it due to its excessive size and inefficiency.

Switched back to Java 7 after reinstalling Java 8, which seems to run Minecraft better.
