I'm checking the USB C connection on my laptop. While updating my graphics driver, I noticed a question about what USB C does and whether it's Thunderbolt.

Nvidia's software for connecting displays via USB-C is likely the correct answer. USB-C supports 'alternate mode' which can switch to HDMI or DP functionality.

I believed only Thunderbolt ports could serve as a display connection.

USB/DP alternative mode can deliver DP through USBC without using Thunderbolt. It comes with its own drawbacks, making it less ideal for applications where low latency matters, such as gaming.

Yes, you can send output via the USB-C port to another display device.

Acer's latest Predator Helios 300 features USB-C and Thunderbolt 4, making it compatible for that connection. A more detailed model or year would help confirm.

It doesn't appear this device includes Thunderbolt via search results. However, as mentioned by @Levent, using alt-mode might also provide display functionality. The safest approach is to consult the manual for details or try a USB-C to HDMI or DP adapter.

Testing is typically the most reliable approach because manufacturers rarely specify compatibility. You might discover forum conversations about support, but for devices with confusing model names, determining if a match is feasible becomes more challenging.
