I’ll try to convince the people I got the case from to assist me in safely removing the stuck plastic using some small tools. It seems the cable was definitely faulty. I didn’t apply much pressure at first; it just broke. When I pulled out the same cable from the old motherboard, I had to pull harder and everything worked out. That’s why I was surprised to see this happen.
You might be able to retrieve that blue plastic using a bit of creativity. Locate a few needles, a lighter (or use the stove’s gas light if near it), and some pliers. Use the pliers to grip the needle, then ignite it with the lighter to make it very hot. Insert the needle into the blue plastic from the side walls; the heat should help it go in easily. Once you have two needles inside the connector, simply pull on them to lift the connector out.
there are locking tabs on the USB header on the motherboard that require... handling with care. Use a shim or spudger to carefully remove the blue piece from the socket if you're precise enough; the motherboard should still be fine. You might take it to a phone repair shop for assistance, or purchase spudgers from IFixit.
