What's your soldering ability like? The plastic cover is just for keeping things in place and aligning, you can remove it carefully if you follow the directions when connecting the damaged cable. If it fits, simply use tape to secure it and avoid touching it—hope the adhesive holds everything firmly so it stays put. Alternatively, consider using an RMA service for the case or board.
You're thinking about a creative approach to upgrading your motherboard. Removing the Proken module together with the plastic case, using an old enclosure from your previous board, and swapping the USB header in the case could be possible. Just make sure you handle the pins gently and avoid any damage. It sounds like you're aiming for a reliable solution.
If you prefer not to use a USB port, the motherboard works just as well.
There are several USB ports available, so I’ll stick with just one front port for now. I plan to eventually remove this plastic piece once I have the right tools. I’ll need some thin metal to loosen the pins and good pliers. But wow, that was an annoying sight!
My friend followed a similar process, heating one side of the needle nose pliers until it became hot. They poked it into the plastic, allowed it to cool, then squeezed and pulled it out. Based on what you described, it seems the pins came out without any connector being crushed by the motherboard.
It looks like the result was clean, leaving just the bothersome plastic. I’ll aim to remove it using the suggested hot pliers method.
Avoid being too intense, it's okay. Still, feel free to keep it if you want.
