The Problem: My CPU performance in Counter Strike is really struggling. I’m consistently around 75-85% utilization. Even after using MSI Afterburner and checking Task Manager, my temperatures look normal for both CPU and GPU, and GPU usage is also okay. Still, during gameplay things spike unexpectedly high. This worries me because: 1) I know others with similar hardware get much lower usage. 2) Over time my CPU starts throttling and FPS drops a lot. 3) Adding other tasks like music or Discord makes it nearly impossible to play CS:GO smoothly. 4) I can stream Twitch, watch videos, and play other games without affecting my CS:GO session much at all. Notes: - I’ve reinstalled the game. - I’ve tweaked settings to boost FPS. - My PC always runs high-priority tasks. - The BIOS has the “Asus-optimal” setting enabled for better performance. If you can help, please share ideas on how to lower my CPU load while gaming CS:GO. Thanks! Also, just a reminder that temperatures are normal for both components.

Your CPU slowing down suggests poor cooling, not a reason to lower performance.

It's possible the reading is still within a normal range despite the high temperature.

The issue arises due to elevated temperatures. Verify your readings or confirm the CPU isn't actually throttling.

When the consumption reaches its limit, frame drops start occurring. This occurs infrequently, though an average of 75 to 80 uses per session is quite high for a single application.

Throttling refers to when your computer slows down or frame rate drops to avoid overheating. That’s why you see the performance drop. I’m not sure about that, but I think it’s just the Task Manager showing CS:GO as the main consumer. Everything else uses only a small fraction of resources.

It seems your GPU is significantly stronger than your CPU, causing the CPU to become the limiting factor.

In short, the only way forward seems to be upgrading... I really don’t understand how a $300 processor could handle CS:GO at 70% or more usage.

Limit the frame rate to around 60 frames per second to avoid overloading your CPU.
