Hello, you're looking to upgrade your system to a more powerful CPU compared to your current AMD FX 6300. Your motherboard supports the following models: https://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Gigabyte/..._1.1).html I have a 450W power supply, 8GB RAM, SSD, and an AMD R7 260X GPU.

What are your intentions? The current CPU is causing issues; your board struggles with anything better than the FX6300, which is essentially broken. Even if it could run any CPU at all in 2022, its single-core performance is terrible and it underperforms in most tasks. I recommend you avoid spending money on this setup. Could you share your budget and objectives?

I wouldn't think a CPU inside that socket is worth it. If your finances are tight, look for a used B350/B450 motherboard, a basic Ryzen processor, and affordable DDR4 RAM. Even first-gen Ryzen offers significant gains over the FX lineup, and a Ryzen 3 1200 could boost performance noticeably. You might also find a Ryzen 5 1400 or even a 1600 at a reasonable price.

There are listings for 8350 and 8370 models, but they fall short of even a 5820k Intel processor. You can find a motherboard and CPU for under the cost of a used 8370.

Save your money and look for something more up-to-date. The Ryzen 1600 used condition is quite affordable, and you might find a good deal on a motherboard bundle. Used parts are usually reliable and offer solid performance for most tasks. This upgrade provides a noticeable boost compared to older models, especially since an AM3 platform wouldn’t support it. Avoid investing in outdated hardware.

It's actually fine with the CPU, it handles everything just fine. I'm not running many tasks at once or playing games at high settings. As a competitive player, I don’t need a top-tier system right now. Upgrading my DDR3 motherboard is okay since it’s still functional. A lot of people use older parts and they work perfectly. I’m not sure if I can keep the same cooler, but I’m worried about losing my CPU and RAM if I change things.

It depends on what you need, and it should fit your budget well.

True! As long as it works for you, why not. What are you paying for the new old CPU?

You're welcome to share your thoughts, but I didn't actually see the picture of your motherboard. Based on what you said, it sounds like you're considering an older CPU and wondering about the cooling setup. If you're unsure about VRM cooling, you might want to check the motherboard manual or manufacturer specifications for details.
