Hello everyone. I own a Ryzen 5900X and an Asus Crosshair Hero VIII motherboard. I was using a G.Skill Trident Z 32GB (2x16GB) 3200MHz DDR4 kit for this setup. I upgraded my RAM to the GSKill Trident Z Neo RGB 32GB (2x16GB) 3600MHz model to boost performance in tasks like AutoCAD, Solid, Photoshop, and Lightroom. My question is: Was this upgrade the right decision? There are also 4000MHz kits available. Some users mention issues at that speed, saying a 1:1 ratio works best. I’ve heard Ryzen processors perform better with single-sided or double-sided sticks in 4 modules. If I add another 2x16GB 3600MHz RAM later, will my performance drop? Thank you for your advice.

No noticeable enhancements beyond standard tests or timing results. Upgrading feels subtle and consistent with regular usage.

It runs slightly quicker during rendering than before. The average frame rate difference was about 4 to 5 FPS, sometimes reaching 7 to 8 FPS in games. Your setup includes a 1080P, 280Hz, 1ms IPS monitor from Asus TUF, model VG279QM.

In everyday use, there’s usually no noticeable change. If you’re satisfied, you don’t need to upgrade RAM further. Increasing capacity might help, especially with big files. You might want to consider going up to 64GB.

It doesn’t look like a solid improvement, really—you might only see about a 3% boost in some situations. Faster RAM won’t make much difference either, since the top speed is capped around 3800MHz, and performance gains will be even smaller. Hold off on expecting bigger speeds until AM5 supports faster DDR5 RAM.

You can’t be sure your chip will handle 4 sticks at 3600 speed with 64GB and at least two ranks per channel until you test it. The motherboard matters too, along with the exact RAM modules you purchase—brand isn’t important, only the individual sticks you bought yourself. It might work, but you may need to lower memory speeds or adjust timings for a successful boot. This depends on the hardware, so only you can find out what will actually function with your setup.

I see. Purchasing two 32GB units appears to be the optimal choice if you require additional RAM. Given the four channels mentioned, operating might become challenging. Also, when the situation arises, transitioning to DDR5 technology seems essential.

I plan to move to DDR5 at the right moment. However, I expect the 5000 series will stay current with performance for the coming years, so it won’t drop behind.

Only two channels are available, even with four slots. As mentioned, it should generally function well—I've tested this on every system I own and never faced issues. I just can't promise it will work for you. It might, but certainty isn't guaranteed.
