Upgrade RAM for better performance.
Upgrade RAM for better performance.
I believe a 2x8GB at 3200Mhz is sufficient for the Ryzen 5 2600. You probably won’t see significant gains from adding more than 32GB unless you upgrade to a faster processor.
If you rely heavily on your system and have extra cash, go for the 32 unit. It’s enough to make heavy Chrome users feel satisfied and stop needing constant RAM concerns. For those on a budget, pick any affordable option from a trusted brand—it will still perform well. RAM is inexpensive now, and quality doesn’t have to be expensive.
Light user mainly for gaming, though 8GB feels quite low these days. Could be worth selling the current setup and getting a better upgrade? Also, I might need a new power supply since the current one seems insufficient and possibly unsafe.
I use the same Ryzen model with 32 gigabytes of memory. However, I follow my own rule when setting up a new build: I always increase everything by at least four times what I have. My previous system had eight gigs, which was rare at the time. Upgrading to today’s specs means doubling capacity to 32 gigs, and soon that will be the standard minimum—just like 16 is currently the lowest acceptable. Also, keeping all RAM slots filled maximizes performance, since unused slots limit total capacity regardless of size.
It's possible, though you might want a 3600 for a reasonable price and a noticeable performance boost (check the latest bios first). Swap the old chip, then install two 16GB 3000MT RAM sticks and you'll be good for a while. When AM5 arrives, you'll find good deals on B450 boards with 5600X, allowing you to reuse your RAM and possibly trade in the old board before upgrading. It depends on how much you're ready to work on the hardware.
It seems like you're talking about how 32GB storage could help us last through the end of the x86 age, while RISC-V is gaining ground.
The setup also featured an RX 570 GPU, which seems adequate for current needs. It might be wise to upgrade the motherboard since the A320M socket has issues with RAM upgrades. You may want to look for compatible "special RAM" that supports it and enable XMP settings.
