At around 1-2fps it works fine. The Ryzen 7 3700X is a good choice, and you can upgrade later without needing a new motherboard. AMD makes sense. If you really aim for better performance than the R7 3700X, consider getting the i9 9900K—it offers a noticeable boost in games. The i7 9700K provides only a slight improvement, around 0-2%.
Sure, it sounds like you're considering a change due to issues with your current setup. Upgrading your motherboard could definitely address those problems.
Shows slight improvement in a few games that rely only on a couple of cores, usually barely noticeable. If you run at 1080p 240Hz and believe the extra 3FPS with 9700K is truly worth it compared to lower settings, proceed—but unless you have money available, it doesn’t seem like a wise decision.
I recommend choosing the 3700X from those options. The 3800X adds only a small upgrade in price, while the 3900X provides minimal gains for gaming. It's also the top-end CPU model I'd suggest for your B450 Elite. Although I don’t have much VR experience, I believe any processor with eight cores or more will suffice.
