Updating to Windows 8.1 encountered an issue.
Someone else is experiencing the same issue with Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit (Media Center included). The update caused an error code 0xC1900101-0x40017. They mentioned they had a valid copy of Windows 8 Pro with Media Center but couldn't locate it in the store until they found a helpful article that provided the download link. After downloading and installing thoroughly, they encountered the same problem. Others with Pro versions seem to be facing similar challenges.
It seems many users are encountering the same issue: http://www.infoworld.com/t/microsoft-win...ate-229058
Sure thing! When Windows 8 launched, they made it free to upgrade. Previously, adding Media Center to Pro was an extra charge. I believe in 8.1 it became included. For those who struggled with the initial release, it seems like early adopters were the ones who embraced it. I remember getting a fresh install on my MiniITX machine about two months after launch—though I’m not sure if that’s accurate. Either way, it was definitely a mixed experience.
