I’m using a setup from around 2012. Besides spending about $300 on a graphics card last year, it still runs everything smoothly at a decent resolution. I believe SC is the first title in a while that will genuinely motivate me to upgrade my hardware. Back in the early 90s, new releases often demanded a fresh GPU or CPU upgrade.

The game is no joke. You can watch on YouTube every week exactly what they're doing. To me, needing a high-end rig to run it is not a deal breaker.... it's the point. Why else would we care about speccing out a great machine without great content to really flex it? Let them take their time and do it right. There is nothing else like it.

Back then, it felt like a different era—you had to invest more than $2500 in a system that would only run for a couple of years. The newest games often started breaking down soon after release. When the time came, an $800 machine could keep up with the latest titles for 5-6 years, which was a real advantage. It’s unclear why people would prefer waiting two years just to upgrade.

Those specifications were probably mentioned in a product manual or online review.
