Each SFP includes a vendor-specific ID and control address. Using a module named after Cisco should work if it matches those fields. However, mismatched vendors—like Finisar for HP—may still fail. Some modules lack vendor data entirely and tend to be more universal. Note that older Cisco models might not support the latest IOS updates.
I managed to refresh the iOS updates thanks @Lurick, but apparently it’s stuck on the same issue now. Feeling pretty stuck, I attached my logs just in case. #switcharoo
It appears unlikely, but it seems the SFP might not be properly coded for Cisco gear. Alternatively, it could be damaged. This is odd because the one you received has "cisco" in its name, yet... It’s definitely either a faulty SFP or incorrect EEPROM coding inside it.
Sadly, I’ll attempt to secure a "Cisco" approved DAC just to make it one final effort, then hope for the best.
