Update on 5600x assistance
I’m planning to get a new PC soon when the 5600X is released, but I’m unsure about updating the BIOS for the 5000 series CPU if I don’t have another processor. Also, I’m having trouble finding instructions online and I’m using a B550 motherboard.
AMD might have sent out a BIOS fix ahead of schedule to back up Zen 3, especially if older BIOS versions lacked support for Zen 3’s AGESA code. A flashback button could let you upgrade without installing the CPU. Which board are you checking?
Essentially you don't require much—just power for the motherboard and a USB drive with the BIOS file copied and ready. You're not even looking at CPU, RAM, graphics card, or storage drives. USB BIOS Flashback isn't brand new; it just became more common recently. Back then, only premium ASUS ROG boards offered this. Now companies like MSi, Gigabyte, and AsRock are adding it to their own models. My ASUS ROG Crosshair V Formula from 2012/2013 had it, as did the previous Gen 2010/2011 Crosshair IV Extreme, while my Crosshair IV Formula didn't...
Yep. Well...you don't even NEED a case hahaha. Motherboard + PSU on top of a table or the motherboard cardboard box will do. There is a specific USB port on the back of the motherboard to use for USB BIOS Flashback. Plug the USB stick in, and press the button. Step by step instructions should in the motherboard user manual... Depends on what board you eventually get....buuuut...ASUS has instructions online. https://www.asus.com/us/support/FAQ/1038568/
