Upcoming updates for Tomb Raider: DX11 and DX12 on R9 290 platform
heh, you're welcome. but I'm not sure "worse" is the right word here. it seems that DX12 is attempting to raise the min fps at the cost of max. imo this is better for the new platform games are headed (VR). while on the desktop with freesync/gsync, I'm sure the experience is smooth. for me however, its not (don't have my freesync monitor yet )
Sure, I made changes to your post after you referenced it. I also included an additional line of text.
Adjusting the minimum values at the expense of higher limits isn't a core feature of graphics APIs. The issue with frame rate limitations and stuttering on DX11 appears to have been resolved in DX12, making minimums more effective. For peak FPS scenarios, bottlenecks shift, requiring developers to focus on different optimizations for DX12 performance. Generally, Vulkan and DX12 were expected to reduce microstutter and hitching by properly handling CPU-GPU synchronization. These problems usually stem from temporary CPU delays rather than GPU workload, and they can persist in some games even with solid average rates.
I wouldn't claim D3D12 is worse or that it's a tie since the key metric is minimum frames per second, not just the highest. Checking the OP's data shows maximum FPS stays well above 60 under D3D12. It seems they prioritized eliminating CPU bottlenecks, but didn't address the factors affecting lower max FPS, which aren't critical in this case.
It's the sole title with a recent dx12 update (its own benchmark). I don’t own Hitman, and I’m not planning to. I have Witcher 3, but I don’t know if CDPR released a patch.
The Witcher 3 patch is on the way bringing lots of fixes and improvements Read more: http://wccftech.com/cd-projekt-witcher-3...z42yMvbRTT Also you can wait for Batman Arkham Knight, the most demandign title on pc as per what I know, or not such a good port!
