Hello, I’ve chosen to upgrade my old 3700X to a new 5800X3D during a sale. Initially, everything seemed fine, but now things aren’t going as planned. First, let’s look at my setup: Gigabyte X570 I AORUS PRO Team Group with 32GB RAM (2x16GB), 3600MHz CL18 T-Force Vulcan Z, two Corsair MP510 drives, a 960GB AMD Radeon 6900 XT card, and a 600W Corsair SF600 power supply. The problems are quite unusual—it feels like a strange scene from a horror film.

When I used Alt-Tab in games or during benchmarking, the whole system became extremely sluggish. It took 15 to 20 seconds for the Alt-Tab pop-up to disappear. All benchmarks showed good performance, but the system was still very slow. In games, the FPS difference between the 3700X and 5800X3D was noticeable, yet the performance dropped even more during Alt-Tab, with issues like frozen borders and stuck windows.

I thought it might be related to Windows, so I reinstalled the operating system. That made things worse. The Alt-Tab problem disappeared, but now I couldn’t install half of my applications. Steam kept throwing errors that only resolved when I set the installer to compatibility mode with the “Run as admin” option.

I also couldn’t run any games that required EAC, and Office 365 installation failed. In Vivaldi, I experienced frequent 5-second freezes whenever I opened or closed a new tab. Sometimes YouTube videos wouldn’t load at all.

I tried many things: checked RAM with XMP profiles, swapped RAM sticks, changed the GPU to an 2070 Super, and replaced the PSU with a 750W unit. The only solution was reinstalling the 3700X. It seems the CPU might be faulty, but I’m unsure if it’s the motherboard—since I can’t test the swap on my second machine, which runs Intel.

Please let me know if you need any further assistance.

Is the newest BIOS installed? That’s the top priority before installing a new component. OP has already verified it.

I concur with @Zando_. Ensure you're using the most recent BIOS version. Apparently, certain motherboards require a specific BIOS update just to run the 5800X3D.

I updated the latest BIOS before installing the CPU to ensure AGESA 1.2.0.7 was properly set up. NOTE: Gigabyte doesn’t specify a particular update sequence, so I’m relying on the most recent version as sufficient.

I didn't expect this to be useful since the update factory cleared all configurations and I performed another factory reset afterward. I might attempt that soon.

Updated to the most recent stable BIOS versions. Experienced similar problems before. The processor appears normal, but BIOS compatibility remains limited with current software.

I upgraded to the newest stable release. I attempted to revert to a previous version by one update, but only two versions handle the 5800X3D model.
