Do you have any background on using the RockItCool tool? I’ve tried it on a 7700k and Pentium 4600. For a 9900k, do I need the newer 9th-gen version? The old tool should work fine.

The 9900k is a soldered IHS, which means it requires more than just a basic tool to remove it safely. Doing it incorrectly can damage your chip and pose significant risks.

I'm not concerned about this. Please see the attached video. I just want to confirm if the RockItCool original delidder supports the 9th generation features.

It shows both yes and no aspects. The silicon in the 9th generation is thicker. Extra details: the die itself is thicker too. The measurement shows previous CPUs at 0.87mm PCB thickness, while the 9th generation is 1.15mm. That’s a 0.28mm gap. I plan to trim about 0.3mm from my current tool so it matches the new generation properly. Then I’ll 3D print a spacer to fit older chips. Done.
