Secure Boot stops systems from starting unless they’re verified by a key stored in UEFI, which only Windows applications can handle. Turn it off in your BIOS and test again; it should work now.

It's a relief to know the problem is fully resolved.

This matches what you expect. Near fast boot and secure boot settings, the 'other OS' choice appears in your BIOS. Also, avoid installing Kali Linux and opt for an alternative. We keep receiving 'help me' messages from users who can't upgrade or install software on Kali due to mirror outages.

they have a lot of strict requirements for setting up linux, and even with a solid, regularly updated distribution like kali it can still cause issues.

You might choose Kali Linux because it’s designed for penetration testing and security tasks, not everyday use. Running it alongside Mint on your Acer C720 Chromebook could add flexibility but isn’t ideal for general browsing.

It wasn't impossible, just much more bothersome than other options.
