You're facing issues with Kali Linux installation on your laptop. It seems the OS isn't loading properly, especially when options are chosen during boot. Even though you confirmed the ISO works on a virtual machine, the problem might be related to compatibility or bootloader settings. Consider checking your bootloader configuration and ensuring the correct USB device is selected.

I also attempted to install Ubuntu after it failed, but it kept freezing in the same place.

It's an Acer E5 with an Intel i5 5200U, 8GB RAM. The storage was changed from a 1TB Toshiba drive to a Samsung 500GB SSD.

The Samsung SSD model is a high-performance storage device. It supports various interfaces such as M.2, SATA, and Evo, depending on the specific variant.

Did you turn off Secure Boot in your BIOS prior to installing it? *Note:* This refers to the Linux Distros. Updated December 5, 2016 by imreloadin Added clarification.
