the main issue is that the laptop won’t boot from the USB drive. i tried using GNU GRUB version 2.02 with the 'UNetbootin' option, but it crashes right after loading. after mounting the boot partition, the system reports an error saying the device isn’t recognized. i’m stuck and don’t know how to fix it. i’m new to linux, so i need simple steps to get it working again.

Did you confirm the ISO you saved? You can search for it on Google if you're unsure.

You need to press the reply button to receive a notification. This issue appeared because I kept the page open. It seems the ISO partition has an incorrect label; Unetbootin uses a different one than what the live CD expects. I think the problem stems from Unetbootin not being updated for this Mint version. First, change the partition label to match what the live CD requires. Second, try using the tool on pendrivelinux.com—assuming you're attempting to create a USB from Windows. If you're using Mac or Linux, just use dd instead.

Unetbootin isn't ideal since the USB was created for this laptop. What's the top solution overall? Are you referring to the issue starting when the computer powers on?

UEFI requires the installer to support UEFI; some systems still don’t. Ensure your motherboard is configured correctly. If issues persist, switch to legacy mode using the BIOS if available. Otherwise, consider alternative approaches like the provided tutorial link.

Check the installer's documentation for UEFI support. Look for compatibility statements or requirements. If unsure, test it in a UEFI-enabled system.

I've experienced inconsistent outcomes, mainly unfavorable, when using UNetbootin. I suggest giving it another shot with Etcher. https://etcher.io This might not be a direct solution, but it's worth a try.

To be clear, no shortcuts function. This has been attempted since the issue began, starting in October. Please refer to OP **laptop** = Lenovo U310 (none of the reset or BIOS methods have worked).

It's not guaranteed. An external CD drive with an ISO inside won't automatically boot unless your system is configured to do so. You need to enable the bootable media option in BIOS or use a boot manager.
