Unable to achieve a consistent DOCP with the Asus ProArt X870E and 9800X3D.
Hi everyone, I've recently upgraded to a 9800X3D with 32G of 6000MHZ DDR5 (full specs details below) and I'm struggling to get a stable system with DOCP enabled. I've got limited knowledge in RAM overclocking aside from enabling DOCP / XMP and I was wondering if there was something I could test in addition to simply enabling the preset in BIOS. So far I've testing all available DOCP profiles, namely DOCP 1, DOCP 2 & DOCP tweaked. I managed to get the system booting from time to time only for it to crash at some point and the motherboard refusing to boot until I did a BIOS reset. I have no issue whatsoever with DOCP off. I've also updated the BIOS from 0706 (the version it shipped with) to the beta 1001 from 2025/01/13 with no success Here are my system specs: CPU : 9800X3D Motherboard : Asus ProArt X870E with BIOS 1001 (2025/01/13) RAM : G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB Silver 2x16GB DDR5 6000MHz CL30-40-40-96 at 1.35V F5-6000J3040F16GX2-TZ5RS. GPU : Asus RTX 4080 16GB Noctua. SSD : Corsair MP700 Elite 1TB PSU : Corsair HX850i 850W 80+ platinum Other expansion cards : I also have a PCIe 3.0 USB expansion board plugged to bottom slot (referenced as PCIEX16(G4) in the motherboard diagram) Please let me know if there is any information missing. At that point I'm not sure if this is a compatibility issue or if I should simply wait for an update BIOS revision to support this specific kit. Or if I should go and tweak my RAM voltages. Any help is appreciated.
I’d likely revert to the non-beta BIOS to test its behavior, just because I don’t like using beta versions on the system I rely on daily. Regarding the RAM problem, the first step would be to reinsert the memory. Based on my experience, DDR5 tends to be sensitive to mounting pressure, and improper installation can hinder XMP functionality. Also verify it’s placed in slots 2 and 4 counting from the CPU, as other slots might interfere with XMP setup. If everything checks out there, I’d proceed to manually configure the XMP settings, since the BIOS might be handling the profile correctly.
Completed the RAM replacement without success. Swapped both sticks as recommended online. Chose the farthest slot from the CPU, left one empty, then selected the next available one per the manual and silkscreen. Will test different BIOS versions to find a compatible one.
I've checked all BIOS updates except betas, but there seems to be a compatibility problem. Regarding manual DOCP tuning, do you have any guidance or references? Would it be best to begin with the DOCP profile and then compare it against the manufacturer's specifications?
I use a different setup but an Asus board (refer to the notes) and their BIOSes have been unreliable—upgraded three times since May. Either I can't run EXPO 6000, or MCR works but the RAM training on boot is inconsistent. My voltage settings are capped at -10 now, whereas earlier versions supported -20 or even -30. I settled on -10 and managed to run Expo and MCR after the BIOS update in late September, but it seems this isn't the right board.
When you power on the PC, it activates diagnostic LEDs on the motherboard. Adjusting the OC speed should immediately display the new speed setting during the system restart.
Initially I managed to boot into Windows but it would freeze or crash under stress, now it consistently freezes at the green startup screen. It seems to pass the memory and processor tests but gets stuck afterward. I've tried different speeds without success. The only working setup is with DOCP turned off.
I shared my question on the Asus forum to check for replies. I'll update you once I receive a response.
