I'm not sure what you mean by "booting off another machine's hard drive." Could you clarify the situation or provide more details?

You can enter console mode by turning off the splash screen. In the grub menu, use tab or press the E key (depending on your system) and switch to edit mode. Locate the line beginning with "kernel" and remove any sections containing "splash" and "quiet." Press F10 to boot. EDIT: ignored, I noticed where he reached the console.

So since the laptop screen isn’t working, I couldn’t check the BIOS to upgrade the OS. I had to install it on a different machine with specs like an i5 7400, 16GB RAM, GTX 1060, and 6GB of ASRock H270M Pro4. I don’t have any other useful details about its configuration.

When you used a driver made for NVIDIA, it might be the issue. Simply delete those files using sudo apt-get purge nvidia-current

It might be the issue I kept attempting to install the Intel drivers while leaving the Nvidia settings unchanged. I’ll try again this evening.
