Two short beeps followed clearing the CMOS in Thinkcentre m82.
I've checked all options in the pin area, but nothing is working. The PC won't start, and I hear two short beeps. Initially, I was trying to boot from a disk, but it wouldn't load. Then I enabled secure boot, which caused a black screen. I cleared the CMOS, but it still didn’t work. I rechecked the RAM placement, but nothing changed. My system is Windows 10, 64-bit. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, even if it doesn’t help.
Welcome to the forums! Check the boot order settings. The troubleshooting guide mentions a POST error with two short beeps, which corresponds to 73 on page 66 of the manual. Refer to the hardware maintenance manual for details.
I notice the boot sequence since it doesn’t power on fully—it only emits a beep, there’s no display, and all connections appear to be functioning correctly. I’ve tried connecting it to another machine, which is operating smoothly.
Even though you thought differently, it's possible you disturbed something during the CMOS battery adjustment. I recommend disconnecting and reattaching everything carefully.
I attempted to adjust the RAM, but the system restarted again. The CMOS is reset now, and it isn't producing the two beeps. The keyboard remains inactive—no clear solution yet.
Verify the CMOS battery placement. If issues persist, consider replacing it with a new one—they're inexpensive.
When you restart after resetting, the BIOS will display information about the system configuration, memory status, and any detected hardware issues. It may show details such as the number of RAM slots, chipset type, boot order, and whether there are errors during the boot process.
You just replaced the CMOS battery, but the device isn't functioning yet.
