It's fully triple buffered with no lag. For double buffering, performance stays under 30fps on a 60Hz display.

It's mostly about testing and adjusting until you get the right balance. I don't rely on any special software like Fraps to check frame rates. Just turn off VSync because the frames often drop, even if it feels smooth at 70% of the time—sometimes the 30% drops so low it gets frustrating. Everything else depends on your setup and the card you're using. Once you hit a stable frame rate with little to no tearing, you can fine-tune the anti-aliasing until it feels just right.
