I recently set up a new home computer for work and installed Windows Home using an ISO file without a license. My company gave me a Windows Pro license. When I enter the key, I receive this message: "The product key you entered didn't work. Check the product key and try again, or enter a different one. (0xc004f050)." My admin advised upgrading from Home to Pro for the key to function. I attempted to obtain a generic Windows Pro key to upgrade the OS, but now face this error: "We can't activate Windows on this device because you don't have a valid digital license or product key. If you think you do have a valid license or key, select Troubleshoot below. (0x803fa067)." Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

Choose between Windows Pro or an in-place upgrade. Home and Pro are not the same setup.

Begin with installing Windows Pro First. Attempting an upgrade seems unlikely since the provided key isn't an upgrade key.

Create a fresh bootable USB and install the Pro version instead.

Absolutely, or please supply the installation media so the key can address the issue without bias about who the problem is.

Setting up the home and using a Pro key for an upgrade seems to function properly, based on my experience, though I’ve encountered cases where the key might not work anymore.

For a complete retail license. An OEM key worked, but Windows didn’t recognize it.
