Transitioning from 4930k to 8700k
I’ll run it at 4.5GHz and see how it stacks up against the 8.7GHz stock.
For most users who just play games and browse the web, performance is top-notch. I saw a noticeable jump when upgrading from 8600k to 8700k. There wasn’t a difference when switching from 2600k to 8600k or from 8700k to 9900kf. If you’re not gaming at 1080p with high refresh rates, it probably doesn’t matter much.
I'm considering what's ahead, the 8700k seems to offer better long-term value, while the 4930k is likely to continue declining.

It would be smarter to choose a Ryzen CPU now. For gaming, go with the 3600. For streaming or video editing, opt for the 3700x. The performance boost doesn’t justify the higher cost compared to an Intel chip.
If you're aiming for the Intel route despite AMD's options, I'd wait for a fresh Intel release in Q1. They should all include HT, offering a future upgrade path with potentially up to 10 cores. If that doesn't fit, consider AMD instead. The 3000 series is decent, and the ZEN3 could also be a solid upgrade.
I enjoyed the upgrade but found less space than expected. I preferred playing through the game fully before release rather than waiting. Still, you'll get a stronger CPU. Others might think it's worth trying a different version or waiting a bit more.
