Today I experimented with an old Xbox that runs Linux. Then I moved on to another project using Steam on a streaming box, thinking it would be simpler if consoles had a Steam client. I realized Linux supports a Steam client and with the right cable, the original Xbox could display 720p. I haven't tried it yet and just wanted to see what others thought.

If the original Xbox can handle it, it seems like a great concept! 720p isn't that impressive.

The original Xbox likely lacks the necessary decoders for seamless streaming.

It's unclear if the original Xbox will manage decoding streams smoothly, even at 720p. Still seems like a promising concept! Give it a try and let us know your thoughts.

It likely didn't perform well back then, but it's still worth trying.

I own seven Xbox consoles all using XBMC, but one runs Linux and is accessed via the dashboard. It's running very outdated. If Steam were installed, the system would only have 64MB of RAM.

I swapped the Xbox for a HTC Phonebook and spend around 400 dollars without an operating system. I can access all my files, run Steam, and play games in 1080p quality.
