Open your user directory, click the desktop folder, go to properties, choose location, assign the desired path, then relocate the files.

You can also handle this for any folders in your user directory. It’s a good idea to do this for your photo and download folders if you rely on them often. I usually keep everything outside the boot drive, so when I reinstall Windows (every 4-6 months), I don’t need to back anything up because none of my files are stored on the drive being wiped.
