Hello everyone! I just assembled a budget gaming PC for my best friend's birthday. It comes with a Q6600, 4GB RAM, a 500GB SSD spinning at 7200 RPM, a GTX 560, a 400W power supply, and a generic Intel motherboard—all for just 205 Australian dollars. The problem is, the games he enjoys on his old laptop are quite CPU-heavy, like BeamNG.Drive. Even though the system can run them at about 20 FPS, the CPU struggles, running at around 2.44GHz. I can’t overclock it in BIOS because it’s an Intel board, but I’ve noticed some CPU overclocking tools exist that might improve performance for demanding titles. Anyone know the top options? I’ve tried ClockGen with mixed results and am curious about other alternatives. Thanks! Edited Nov 7, 2015 by Godlygamer23

For the software to increase CPU speed, both the operating system and the program must be compatible. Updated on OSes and Software. Please join the correct discussion next time. Edited November 7, 2015 by Godlygamer23

I don’t have experience with this program, since I’m using an AMD system. If someone suggests using Intel OC software, that would be fine unless told otherwise. I usually rely on AMD Overdrive without trouble. GPUs are a different matter. But basically, just tell him to use Intel OC if you’re building his PC; he probably doesn’t know enough about overclocking to handle more complex tools. Hope that helped. What godlygamer said. If the processor isn’t unlocked, there’s little point. If the motherboard can’t support it, well enjoy the challenge. Edited November 7, 2015 by superjuddy

The top tools for boosting CPU performance are found within its motherboard's BIOS settings.

Hey there! Got a quick note—didn’t know there was a dedicated thread @ DominicNikon where people discuss BIOS tweaks? The board doesn’t allow overclocking, so that’s why it can’t be pushed further.

alrighty, cheers all, I know for a fact the cpu itself can be overclocked but I wasn't sure about the board. There is so little information available on software overclocking I was hopeful and decided you might not need a board that supports overclocking through the bios. Cheers for the help! c:

If the board doesn't allow overclocking, you won't be able to perform any overclocking beyond a slight adjustment to the base clock.

There’s essentially nothing you can achieve. You might attempt Intel Extreme Tuning Utility (https://downloadcenter.intel.com/downloa...Intel-XTU-), but it won’t take you very far.
