This was what I expected too, it wasn't necessary to go all out since the board isn't built for overclocking. I thought about purchasing a socket 775 that works with it, but I don't want to waste more money if I don't need it. I've checked forums and some folks recommended BSEL mods to push the frequency up to 3Ghz, but it looks risky and I'm not sure it would improve the chip's lifespan.
The change in frequency mainly impacts voltage, not the chip's lifespan. You won't be able to adjust it further. What is the CPU's current clock speed?
I've completed additional investigation and discovered a tool named setfsb which allows successful overclocking to 2.7Ghz.
Got it, the adjustments will raise frequencies gently. Appreciate the support!
Base clock and bus speed can be adjusted in BIOS for locked mobos or CPUs. This lets software modify those parameters too. Performance may not match multiplier OC, but the Q6600 will stay around 3.0GHz regardless. I reached 2.66GHz with a suboptimal OC card.
