Looking for a CPU that complements your GTX 1070. You're considering options under $250 and value future-proof performance. For gaming, you might want something capable, but since you also handle photo and video editing, a Ryzen option could be ideal. Let me know if you'd like some recommendations!

Intel Core i7-8700K and AMD Ryzen 7 2700X work well together. Based on your budget, the AMD Ryzen 7 2700X is the top option: https://www.newegg.com/amd-ryzen-7-2700x...iption=AMD Ryzen 7 2700X&cm_re=AMD_Ryzen 7 2700X-_-19-113-499-_-Product

Your thoughts on a 3600 were brief but clear. Let me know if you'd like to discuss it further!

It’s the most up-to-date option available. The alternatives we discussed were only two years old, so this is the current recommendation.

Being close to a Micro Center without a motherboard yet makes the two-package deal drop the cost of a Ryzen 7 3700X to around $250. If you're not nearby or lack a board, consider the Ryzen 5 3600 instead. It's well under $250, giving you flexibility to experiment with other components.

3600 it is then. Should I wait for the 4000 series to drop before jumping on a 3600? I can wait for a couple of months. Also, I do not live near a Microcenter and already have a motherboard (this is just an upgrade).

Make sure to verify which CPUs fit your motherboard. The 4000 series should work with B450 and X470, especially after a BIOS update. It’s best to look up the available options for your exact board.

I wasn’t expecting a 4000 series chip. I was thinking that once the 4000 series CPUs arrive, the Ryzen 3000 lineup will have to go, letting me purchase a 3600. Apologies for any mix-up. Tongue

It looks like you're suggesting proceeding with a purchase right away and asking about your current CPU.

I’d consider the 3600 as well if you were me. If you’re thinking about upgrading your graphics card in a few years—maybe even the 3700x—especially with a better cooler and possibly a new motherboard—that would help secure your setup. The newer consoles are using 8-core processors now, so future games should too.
