I’m planning to upgrade my current laptop which has a Ryzen 3500U CPU. I’m working with a limited budget and can only shop from one store right now—I need to purchase several items there. My main activities will involve programming, browsing, office work, and occasionally gaming. I’ll likely play Valorant, League of Legends, and The Forest. For the CPU, I’m unsure which one to choose. Options include Intel i5-10400F (182€), Intel i5 10600K (224€), Intel i5 10600KF (231€), Ryzen 3700X (299€), or Intel i7 10700KF (350€). Programming won’t be extremely demanding, even on the 3500U, but compilation times are slow. Since this PC will stay in use for at least two to three years, I expect future projects to require more powerful CPUs and greater processing power.

10600k offers six cores and an OC cable—unlikely to use, but undervolting could work well since it provides better CPU performance compared to the regular versions.

10600k is the sole CPU model supporting an IGPU. For gaming, all titles work smoothly on it. Do you have any ideas about purchasing a 11th generation Intel processor? Those would let you enjoy Valorant and Rocket League at 1080p with low settings and 60fps or higher.

Consider using a PC without a dedicated graphics card for an extended period; ensure you choose a CPU with built-in graphics. Among the options provided, only the 10600K offers this feature. For Intel processors, those ending in 'F' lack integrated graphics, while Ryzen chips have integrated graphics only when they end in 'G'.

Consider checking out Intel 11500 or 11600K options for improved GPU and slightly stronger CPU performance. If gaming is only occasional, you could bypass the GPU entirely by using an RTX 3060 Ti via XTU and still enjoy smooth gameplay at lower resolutions like 720p or 1080p. Alternatively, the 3400G offers a much better GPU without the need for a dedicated card, giving you extra flexibility to boost performance further if needed.

The 10400f or 10600k status depends on whether you require an iGPU. Usually I suggest the 10700, though it’s significantly more expensive locally.

It's not available right now, I'm just waiting another month to check if they come. The games aren't a priority, so I'll wait about a year until I get my GPU. One simple question: if I don't have a GPU or an integrated one on board, can I still turn on the monitor?

Without a dedicated graphics card, you'd need a separate one to connect your monitor. The memory will include a port for that connection, but it won't function without an integrated graphics processor on the CPU.

I believe 10600k is a solid choice—it’ll still outperform my current CPU. If I need an upgrade later, it’s a good plan. Since the build might be done soon, maybe a new model will arrive soon. Thanks to everyone for your support!

If you don't have a gpu then you won't get any display output. So yeah you'll just have a expensive box sitting there. So basically I'd say wait for gpu's to come down in price or get a cpu with an igpu for now if you REALLY NEED the system NOW.
