Absolutely, the processor would likely be the main performance limiter in most games compared to the GPU on a Sandybridge-E HEDT platform. It would make more sense to purchase an affordable AM4 board with a fresh CPU and RAM, then upgrade to an i7 3930K. Whatever is inside isn't worth much since only one CPU exists for that board, which would be slower. Additionally, this CPU doesn't support PCIe 3; it only works with PCIe 2.

The motherboard is limited to a mid-range model. Do you have low memory or storage space?

I didn’t cap my motherboard at mid range—it was recommended for my needs and it performed well. I didn’t expect new GPUs to arrive early, so I’m planning an upgrade right away. I want the best AM5 option so it stays top-tier rather than just mid-range. I haven’t run out of storage multiple times because of the games I own and the recordings I make, which also take up a lot of space. I’d like more storage before it runs out again.

The upgrade isn't necessary; PCIE 4 and PCIE 5 won't affect performance for the 5090 outside ML datasets larger than 32 GB.
