Whenever I upgrade my hardware or get a new monitor, I tend to play Mirror's Edge, Metro 2033, and Crysis 2 because I really enjoy those titles and it always feels like a new game. I started with consoles, then replayed them on my first PC at medium settings, later when I had a 3x1080p NVIDIA Surround setup, then again when I reached maximum performance, and now when I’m using ultra-wide displays. I’m planning to do the same with these too once my new monitor arrives tomorrow.

But what else should I try? I want to make the most of 144hz. I haven’t used anything above 60hz before except in VR, so it’s going to feel really smooth. My monitor is a 2560x1080 (21:9) with Gsync. I’m preparing for RE2 and have a fresh setup from about two weeks ago, so I think I can comfortably run several games at 2560x1080/144hz.

Gamer Nexus enjoys taking breaks during F1 2018. My top racing game is Forza, naturally. You can always enjoy CSGO, of course. Shooting games are great for noticing progress with a higher refresh rate display.

Csgo at 144hz was really impressive. The contrast between this game and others is huge. I found my brother's 60hz compared to mine at 144hz to be extremely unusual.

I didn't realize, but the gun on the screen appeared to run smoothly at 60hz, while the game's map seemed even more fluid. I think this might be due to the gun not shifting as much.

It seems to be a distinct thing from the map. It's still a 3D model, but more connected to the screen than to movement. Not sure, though—I don’t really understand game design.

This would really make sense, wouldn't it?

There are fast-paced games where shifting your vision frequently works better with a high refresh rate. It enhances smoothness, especially noticeable during lots of movement. In FPS titles, it's most apparent when changing head position. I personally experienced this in Overwatch when upgrading from 60hz to 240hz. The change was dramatic—you could actually see things clearly and understood how limited visibility was at 60hz. Returning to 60hz for games like Overwatch is nearly unfeasible for me. I’d rather avoid playing at that lower frame rate.

RAINBOW SIX SIEGE offers the highest refresh rates, but ensure you're using full screen.

I didn't even consider that before, but you're correct. Minecraft really works well, and the Quake Pro field of view might make it even more impressive.

After some adjustments on the screen, I'm still unsure about the setup. I own an Acer Z35 Predator with a 2560x1080 display at 200hz and Gsync. In Windows, even at 120hz it runs much better, but I see noticeable ghosting when trying to run Doom at higher settings. Fast movements seem to blur the frames. I haven't tested other games yet, but I appreciate the refresh rate, though I think the panel quality might be an issue.
