Hi,
I'm using a laptop with the Radeon r5 m330 GPU. The default settings are core@1030mhz, memory clock@1000mhz, and DDR3 2GB RAM. I believe this isn't a high-end gaming card, but I'm trying to overclock it to achieve around 30-50 fps for flight simulation. I want to get the most out of it. The MSI Afterburner options available are power limit, core clock up to 1100mhz, and memory clock up to 1100mhz. I can't adjust the core voltage, fan control, or temperature limits.
Other details:
- AMD a8-7410 APU @2.2ghz
- 8GB DDR3 @1600 (2x4GB)
Please help me. Thanks.
I've found Sapphire Trixx to perform better than Afterburner on my AMD graphics cards. If you're experiencing similar results, you should be able to reach higher clock speeds compared to Afterburner, even though I haven't tested it on a laptop yet.
If this doesn't work, you might only be able to improve things slightly by getting RAM with more precise memory timings, but it probably won't justify the cost for you.

I tried Sapphire Trixx, it worked better than Afterburner on my AMD cards. If your experience matches mine, you should be able to reach higher clock speeds than With With Afterburner, though I haven't tested it on a laptop yet.
If that doesn't help, you'll probably just get tighter memory timings, but it's unlikely to be worth the cost for you.
That tool definitely helped... I gradually adjusted the memory clock and core clock, along with power settings, and found my optimal configuration.
core@1080 mhz
memory@1200mhz
Thanks a lot!
Jerry1010 shared his experience with Sapphire Trixx, noting better results compared to Afterburner on AMD cards. He mentioned trying higher memory timings and found success by adjusting core and memory clock speeds. Core@1080 mhz and memory@1200mhz were used. He also asked if the utility still works stably at those frequencies.
HSSaran shared his experience with Sapphire Trixx, noting better results than Afterburner on AMD cards. He mentioned trying higher clocks with it but found limited gains, especially on laptops. The link provided points to a tech article. If it doesn’t help, he suggests only modest RAM improvements with tighter timings, which likely won’t justify the cost. He confirmed the utility worked well for him, achieving stable performance at 25 fps with anti-aliasing and v-sync.
Jerry1010 shared his experience with various tools and settings. He mentioned trying Sapphire Trixx and found it more effective than Afterburner on his AMD cards. He noted that it allowed him to reach higher clock speeds, though he hadn't tested it on a laptop. He provided links for further reading. If the tool didn't help, he suggested only improving RAM with tighter memory timings, which likely wouldn't be worth the cost in his case. He also confirmed that the utility worked well for him, adjusting memory clock and core clock to find optimal performance.
