If you purchased an authentic version of Windows, I recommend performing a fresh installation of Windows 11 on a different SSD. This ensures you keep your existing Windows 10 SSD intact in case of issues. Note: connect only one drive during the installation process.

Another method involves cloning the Windows 10 SSD to another drive and then upgrading it to Windows 11. The same rules apply—connect just one drive during the upgrade.

If your Windows 10 system was activated online, upon booting the new Windows 11 SSD and logging into your Microsoft account or checking for updates, the servers should recognize your PC's hardware signature. If your license is valid, the new OS will activate automatically. This approach demands more effort and an additional SSD, but it prevents data loss if the new system fails.

The opposite is also valid. You only notice issues in the forum, yet it makes sense that there are more positive examples than negative ones.

Hope for the best, get ready for the worst.
Because OP doesn't have much time to work on it, a clean Win install is quicker than attempting an upgrade, which often fails. Afterward, more effort goes into troubleshooting, and the only solution left is a clean Win install.

I cannot guarantee the results OP would receive either way, nor do I believe others can either. From a strict perspective, I understand your view. For someone who isn’t a regular user, simplicity is preferable. If Microsoft has proven their upgrade methods on supported devices often succeed, then upgrading remains the quickest path for most. A fresh install might be straightforward for those familiar with it, but for most, this would be their initial attempt. The OP mentioned they don’t have time for a new installation.

With these types of guides, link: https://forums. Even someone who uses a PC only for browsing the web can perform a clean install. Yet, there aren’t any straightforward, easy-to-understand instructions when an upgrade should fail. That’s why doing a clean Win install is preferable. Or in other words: a clean Win install offers a safety net. An upgrade doesn’t. It’s up to each individual to choose the best path. And if someone lacks the skills for a clean Win install, they can take their PC to a repair shop and pay for the installation. But if the upgrade encounters problems, what then? Will you continue supporting them through complicated troubleshooting, or will you let them face their issues alone? 🤔 I don’t want to unnecessarily excite people. Instead, I point out the challenges they might encounter, so they can make an informed decision about whether to proceed.
