I enjoy working with Blender and often face long render times. A Threadripper 3970x would make rendering much faster! The issue is that I also like playing games. Since Threadrippers aren’t great at single-thread performance, they struggle in games. Has Zen2 improved this? Probably not by making the game loop multithreaded, but maybe it could compete with other CPUs like the 3950x? Could it reach around a 3950x speed for gaming? Of course, I still want to play games.

I didn’t intend to reference anyone, sorry. The third generation TR chips perform well for gaming, as explained in the replies above. I’m using a first-generation 1950X, and even with a Titan X Pascal it fits my needs just fine. I prefer casual play, not high FPS setups, so I stick to 4K at 60Hz. Zen 2 certainly improved the situation. For just a few threads, these will maintain compatibility with AM4 CPUs, ensuring you enjoy a solid gaming experience. Features like NUMA present in older Threadrippers are no longer an issue. You won't need to compromise on lower thread performance for better higher thread performance now.
