Looking for a solution to run C&C generals? Share your issue here and I'll get back to you within a few days. My goal is to assist as many players as possible and gather different fixes for this game across the web in one place. Installer problems "Unable to launch ... datagen.exe" – fix: follow these steps – installer should start, wait for the error, cancel if needed, restart, ensure datagen.exe is present, then continue. Important: protect datagen.exe with properties and proceed.

If you encounter in-game issues like technical glitches or DirectX errors, try these options:
1. Navigate to your datagen folder and copy all files.
2. Restart the installation and wait for it to request CD2.
3. Make sure datagen.exe is write-protected via properties.
4. If that doesn’t work, download a no-CD patch.

For persistent problems, editing the registry (not recommended) or using a patch file might help. In-game settings can be adjusted later once you’re ready. Source: http://answers.ea.com/t5/C-C-The-Ultimat...464/page/2

For a fun twist, adjust the "MaxParticleCount" to 999999 and see what happens—possibly irreversible damage or something wild. Make sure your GPU can handle the 2003 graphics!

Zero hour, what happened to your servers? Countless hours—sometimes weeks—disappeared with them, leaving nothing in return for all my effort helping those hardworking people. Still, good work; I’ll probably save this piece for another time when I get around to reading it again.

I recall the zero hour multiplayer sessions, where every match often brought three players joining. Thanks to my fast connection—200 kb/s and a low ping—I experienced intense matches at times, but also faced some frustrating moments due to glitch abuse. The scud glitch would reload the superweapon in about ten seconds after firing. I also remembered strategic builds, like creating countless markets that generated cash quickly, though I think the "Reds' rise" mods improved the client enough to showcase multiplayer again via this link: https://youtu.be/47gapJfXjaQ?t=1m4s

The internet client is called "SWR.net" and can be found at the provided link. It includes the "Rise of the Red" installer for download.

I attempted some changes and private servers after the main ones shut down. Even though it was a while ago, there were very few players online, and those who joined were mostly in private rooms. The games I played often ended in the middle, and that pesky scud glitch kept bothering me. I had a long list of suspected cheaters and would scrutinize every player entering my game, especially near the end of their session when it was more likely fans than cheats would be playing.

I recall when generals was just starting out, and I spent countless nights playing it. There was a special map featuring a canyon where four players had to defend against waves of enemies. You needed to build enough turrets to fire at them from a cliff, as they couldn't cross the entire canyon without getting caught. It was quite an engaging experience, though it consumed a lot of time.

I downloaded the game around a year before it stopped working. At first there were many scud abusers, but later fewer appeared. The players I met had become skilled, which made it hard for me to compete most of the time.

I mainly used those kinds of maps in the original StarCraft, I had no idea they were created for C&C generals.

I started playing almost as soon as it came out, and back then everything felt chaotic—cheaters used tricks ranging from map manipulation to financial scams, and even simple things like the microwave feature were problematic. They attempted to address the scud issue, but it didn’t resolve. Eventually, a team of committed fans had to develop GenTool, a fix that eliminated the glitch and reassured players you were just seeking a fair game.
