Hello! I'm considering an upgrade soon and have a few ideas to share.
I'm thinking about swapping the Ryzen 3700X for a 5900X, since it would be a solid upgrade while keeping the motherboard intact. Alternatively, a 5950X might be worth looking into? Should I also consider a new cooler?

My graphics are the GTX 1060 with 6GB RAM, currently running at 1440p and 60Hz. I'm planning to upgrade to something with a higher refresh rate in the future. Possibilities include an RTX 4060 Ti with 16GB or a 4070 12GB. Honestly, I find the prices for GPUs to be quite high these days.

I'm not in a rush. My PC is already capable of running Sims 3 well, which is my main use. However, I'm curious about upcoming titles like Cities: Skylines 2, Sims 5, and possibly "Life by You" if it comes out. GTA 6 might also interest me.

Any suggestions? My budget leans toward spending a bit more for higher settings, but not wanting to overspend.

Current specs:
Motherboard: Gigabyte Aorus Elite X570
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
Cooler: Noctua NH-U12S
GPU: MSI GTX 1060 6GB Armor
RAM: 16GB G.Skill Flare-X 3200 MHz CL 14
PSU: Seasonic PRIME Ultra 850W Titanium

The 5800X3D would perform better in gaming.
4060Ti or 4070 offers strong options for 1440p. AMD hasn't released any 7000 series GPUs in that category yet. This might be the RX7700 or 7700XT.

So I'm assuming it's the Bang for the Buck line, around 1000 dollars. If it's the older Focus model, then I'd also consider 4070 to prevent those temporary spikes from the 6900 or 6950XT, which I would have chosen at this price point. That model really cleans up the floor on 4070 and 4070 Ti. In my view, the Ti version is a bit underwhelming for its cost, so it's better to spend on the 5800X3D to handle potential issues if Paradox ends up with similar unoptimized calculations in Skylines 2 that are more CPU and cache constrained. But ultimately it depends on your decision.

Thanks, I'll include the 5800X3D on the list. I believe the RX 7800 will come soon, so I'll check the reviews.
Around $1000 should be reasonable.
The PSU should be the Prime Ultra (SSR-850TR), not the Focus. (Updated the post to mention the Ultra.) I'll keep the AMD GPUs in mind. And I'm in agreement with the 4070 Ti—worth it for better performance, at least at today's prices.

Don't really need to watch a whole video to compare: GPU Benchmarks and Hierarchy 2023: Graphics Cards Ranked We've run hundreds of GPU benchmarks on Nvidia, AMD, and Intel graphics cards and ranked them in our comprehensive hierarchy.

Examine the Ryzen 7 5700X and allocate the remaining funds to a new graphics card.

I would suggest proceeding only if the platform isn't nearing its end of life. Since this will be the final upgrade, it's best to maximize the platform's lifespan.

It's great that my current card is listed there — it clearly says so at the bottom, reminding me "yeah, gurl, it's time!" I'll still check videos and in-depth reviews later; I've got time.
I might have considered this if my budget didn't restrict me from spending a bit more.
That's what I'm thinking. The best CPU I can afford should come first, followed by the GPU. The 5800X3D or 5900X would be ideal — one for gaming and the other a solid all-round CPU.

I believe the 5700X makes it a solid "all-round CPU" option.
