I noticed this motherboard on sale for $73. It seems more affordable than the B450M-HDV, which was the most budget-friendly B450 board. I’m already hesitant about overclocking since there aren’t any VRM heatsinks visible. I’m also unsure about the number of fan connectors it has. Not very sure yet—please let me know if I’m wrong.
First impression: Galax produces motherboards? Second thought: Uncertain whether you own a Ryzen 5 1600 or Ryzen 3 1200; assuming the 1600 model, I think it's likely a 5-core processor. Even if it's a Ryzen 3, I wouldn't expect much overclocking potential without VRM heatsinks. In fact, I wouldn't even consider overclocking on a board lacking them, regardless of the chipset. With the B450 platform, this board seems aimed at an Athlon GE or APU build. There are reports suggesting Galax and some resellers claim it isn't overclockable, so it's possible the BIOS only offers minimal overclocking support. I can't assess the board's condition directly, but Galax is known for high-quality GPUs. This wouldn't be a good choice for overclocking unless you're very specific and budget-friendly. In the US, unless it's under $50 with a clear plan, I wouldn't purchase it, especially since better options exist in the $70-75 range with VRM cooling.
Well, considering the Ryzen 1600 consumes only 60-80 watts at stock frequencies, there should be some room to overclock the processor a bit. With a bit of overclocking, maybe the cpu will consume 100w or a bit more than that. You could add heatsinks on the vrm yourself it looks like the mosfets are arranged in a nice way that would make it possible to use a plain rectangular aluminum heatsink (or a bunch of small memory chip heatsinks that are commercially available for video card modding) ... yo would use a double sided adhesive thermal tape to keep the heatsink glued to the mosfets. This being said, it's not just about the heatsink and how well the heat can be dissipated, it's also about how easy it is to overclock from the bios, what options you have. Do you have options in bios to change the voltages, do you have options to lock frequencies? I don't know, i guess it depends on bios.
I can identify the type of MOSFET it uses based on its design and features. Once you attach the heatsinks with thermal adhesive, its performance will likely improve due to better heat dissipation.
It would be useful to compare it with the B450m HDV to see how it stacks up in terms of core features and performance.
You shouldn’t anticipate a significant variation in quality, capabilities, or speed. In fact, the main aspect to consider is the warranty support offered.
It seems the HDV includes a heatsink, which is a positive feature.
