I understand now. My choice is 8700. No further input unless he prefers the 12th Gen, which would be more worthwhile. 12400 system, yeah. Edit. Aggressive though? What kind of response is that after all??! Updated April 7, 2022 by Guest 5150 Additional Comment
9400 doesn't offer better performance than an 8400 in real use. You won't feel any difference. 8700 would, but it's still outdated and costly. Your motherboard restricts more powerful processors. I'd sell the 8400/mobo as a whole and buy a 12400F/B660 instead. Avoid spending on a CPU from five years ago.
Looking for a more affordable alternative to the i7 8700 that matches its performance without the 3060ti bottleneck. The best budget-friendly option would likely be an i5 processor paired with a suitable motherboard, ensuring compatibility and cost-effectiveness. Checking current deals on mid-range boards can help find the most competitive prices.
Ryzen 5 5500 paired with B550 offers similar performance. The 12400F provides better value for money. You could opt for an H610 as low as possible, though I haven't tested the VRM setup. For a more affordable choice in the US, the 10400F is available for $127. The B560 costs around $79 and the B560M-Pro Series motherboard is $79 as well. An 11400F runs about $165 but is noticeably faster. The 12400F is priced near $189 but works well with compatible H610 or B660 boards for around $89. I can't confirm the VRM quality on the H610, but it should function if you use a locked 12400 model. I’d recommend the 12400 with a decent motherboard if you’re willing to invest.
