I recently swapped out the motherboard of my prebuilt system and added an M.2 SSD along with some new 3000 MHz RAM. This meant I had to essentially dismantle and reassemble my whole PC. The original build came with a mediocre A320M motherboard, so I upgraded it to a TUF GAMING B550M-PLUS. I took off the old thermal paste and applied Corsair paste (I verified even coverage before reinstalling the stock Wraith Prism cooler). One observation was that the cooler is slightly tilted or angled to one side—just a tiny bit, but noticeable enough to matter. The real problem is consistently high temperatures. Idle temps sit between 45-60°C, and during activity they can rise into the 70s. Gameplay even pushes it up to around 85°C. I turned off PBO and set the fan to run at full speed once temperature hits 65°C. If any BIOS settings are missing or something else is amiss, please let me know.

Specs: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X with stock Wraith Prism cooler (16GB DDR4, slots 2 & 4, 3000 MHz), 500GB Kingston M.2 SSD (Windows 10 boot drive), 480GB Intenso SATA 3 SSD, 2TB HDD, Nvidia RTX 2070 by Zotac TUF GAMING B550M-PLUS, 650W Seasonic PSU.

Hey there. You might want to adjust the mounting brackets slightly to test whether extra pressure makes a difference. From my experience, higher quality thermal pastes usually only add a few degrees of improvement. I'm currently trying liquid metal on my GPU and seeing some promising early results, but I haven't reached a conclusion yet. Most folks would suggest investing in a better cooler, especially if pressure changes don’t help.

Temperature limit reaches 95°C. Consider upgrading your cooler or reapplying high-quality thermal paste to the CPU.

Are you certain? Minor temperature rise might not explain it. Possible new motherboard could be supplying extra voltage. Has clock speed increased? Your settings are PBO enabled/auto.

I turned off PBO but am considering reactivating it because I raised the fan speed. Still, I’m not happy about the fan needing to reach full power just to keep a moderate temperature.

Because changing the motherboard would require adjusting the CPU and cooler mounts, the original mounting pressure might differ. As I mentioned, slightly tightening it could resolve the issue, and you might need a different cooler.
