The 3000 series heats up a lot on the stock cooler unless you lower the voltage. Running at 1.15-1.2v can give you solid speeds (around 3900mhz and above, except for very weak CPUs). You might even push higher clocks during heavy use, as I did before experimenting with undervolting—I once ran 4.1ghz all-core under 1.2v, with a regular program max temp of 76°C. Stock performance hit 4ghz, then slowed to 3.7ghz at sustained loads near 90°C.
