Hello everyone! I just got a new i7 14700k, MSI Z790 Pro Wi-Fi card, 64 GB DDR5 RAM, and a Noctua NH-D15S CPU to enhance my system. Once everything was configured and I powered on, I saw extremely high temperatures. In the BIOS I was idling at 70-80°C. After re-seating the CPU and making sure the motherboard fit perfectly—removing all plastic clips—I cleaned the area and applied another coat of thermal paste. I also added a couple more case fans since I only had one exhaust fan. A BIOS setting was off by a bit, so I changed it to "boxed cooler." This definitely lowered the temps, but I still see idle temps around 70°C and often spike up to 100°C during gaming, causing serious throttling. Here are some benchmarks I took after reseating and upgrading the fans: Before: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/67205175 After: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/67220720 It’s clear the CPU is underperforming a lot, even worse than my old i5-8600k. I’m planning to buy two more fans from BestBuy later today to boost cooling, but I suspect there might be another issue. Any advice would be appreciated!

When using an air cooler, the situation will likely be either the plastic peel remains attached to the cooler’s cold plate or there’s a faulty mounting.

The 1.65V setting in BIOS might be more problematic, as it could lead to similar temperature issues.

Yes, a damaged mount is probably the case—or there might be a plastic peel involved.

No, I don't have any information about a specific mounting kit for 1700.

It wasn’t apparent from the cold plate that a plastic peel was missing. All components appeared securely fastened. A reliable method to confirm a faulty mount exists.

The observation was impressive. The 1.65v reading seems likely responsible, possibly partially.

It seems you're curious about voltage control but haven't adjusted any options. A typical normal range depends on the device, but you should check the manual for specifics. If the issue persists, try resetting the component or consulting support resources.

That could be linked to a specific game or simulation setting.
