If you manage to perform a factory reset with the HPS reset tool, then proceed right away to remove all antivirus software and unnecessary applications. This approach will help you achieve a more streamlined and cleaner system.

When buying a new laptop, I immediately reset it and run a clean Windows install (if it's a Windows machine). After that, I add any OEM software that I think is useful.
I also remember a laptop from years ago that would crash immediately after turning it on (BSOD). That experience inspired the steps I described here.
For @ck1984, do you have a functional system available to provide the installation media mentioned by @USAFRet in the tutorial?

i possess a fresh laptop using linux, though it's not functioning smoothly, and it frequently restarts itself three to four times each day.

It appears there may be an internal issue. Opening it would cancel the warranty, but removing the OS shouldn’t be ruled out based on the search results. Reach out to HP, describe your problem, and explain your attempts to resolve it at the software level to understand your next steps.

the factory reset feature might have been lost after trying to install Debian 12 dualboot, which instead used the whole disk without my input. how can i confirm if this option is still available? the system came with very limited manuals or notes, mostly in chinese :-

Full user manuals can be found online.
If your Debian consumed the entire drive space, it removed the 'factory reset' partition along with it.
But you probably didn’t intend for that.
This would install both the operating system and all the accompanying software, including the unwanted programs that were slowing things down.
You’re looking for a clean installation containing only Windows.
The tutorial linked above accomplishes exactly that.

I would be happy to reverse the factory reset to return the laptop for a refund or exchange. However, following the minimum Windows tutorial, HP may refuse a refund or exchange.
