due to a housefire referenced in the first thread, I purchased a new laptop.
it’s an HP model featuring a Ryzen 5 7520U processor and Radeon graphics.
it comes with 16GB of RAM and either a 1TB SSD or NVMe drive, though the storage type is unclear.
initially, Windows 11 came out of the box sluggish and required frequent resets.
i thought it was just Windows and didn’t worry much because i planned to install Linux.
usually, installing an elementary OS was straightforward without issues.
however, after a few attempts, i managed to get Debian 12 running on my gaming PC, which made me want to try it on this laptop as well.
in short, Windows became completely unstable during the Debian installation, erasing everything and making it impossible to reset or return for a refund.
now it also resets itself and freezes just as often when using elementary OS, even though Debian never actually installed there.
what options do I have with this device?
i could reinstall Windows and see if they notice i did so before returning it.
or is there any chance to fix it?

If the laptop supports installing or repairing Windows directly through the laptop settings, avoid doing so. Obtain the Media Creation Tool from Microsoft's website and perform a clean installation via that method.

Windows is actually quite good. Many manufacturers add additional features during production. Use the media creation tool as discussed before and perform a clean installation. You might be amazed at how smoothly it operates.

Be ready at all times
24/7.
What happens if your present HDD/SSD fails immediately?

well this crappy NEW laptop is supposed to replacce an old laptop kept alive andn useable by linux
i probly have most of these backed up on which i use while working out of town
also waiting on insurance to replace my desktop that was damaged in a housefire.
the desktop itself seems to broken though from only smoke damage as it wont boot up
SO im hoping the nvme drive at least will transfer to a new similar build and boot right up

If Windows, just maybe, if
certain conditions apply.
Exact matches aren't ideal.
For Linux, it seems fine.
Your information shouldn't rely on one device.
