I chose to build a completely new rig for more enjoyment and long-term reliability instead of upgrading my 12-year-old tower. I selected: ASRock X570 Pro4, Ryzen 5 3600, Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200, 16GB DDR4 3200MHz SSD (2x8GB), a 500GB NVMe M.2 SSD, and an EVGA 650W PSU. After putting everything together in the Deepcool Matrexx 50 ADD-RGB 4F case and trying the first boot, the CPU and DRAM LED lights stayed bright and steady. I tried re-seating the RAM to confirm both ends were fully pressed and the same LEDs remained active. It cycled through about 20 to 30 attempts without any changes. There were no beeps or unusual sounds from the board. The Corsair Vengeance RGB RAM was my first choice, recommended by Newegg when I added the CPU and RAM. When it failed, I returned it and ordered the LPX, which on Newegg lists compatibility for AMD, Intel, and Ryzen. Now I’m unsure what else to try except the G.SKILL TridentZ RGB Series 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 SDRAM, which fits both Ryzen and ASRock’s requirements but is also marked as O.C. for this model. I’ve also tried jumping the CMOS connections and retrying the boot, but it didn’t work.
Ensure your BIOS flash is up to date. Also, reposition the CPU and inspect for any bent pins. If the CPU is faulty, it may trigger both CPU and DRAM indicators.
I’m having trouble getting into even the BIOS to try an update. I just removed the CPU fan and checked that the CPU looks fine—no bent pins, everything seems okay. I’ve double-checked all connections and cables multiple times. Still can’t figure out what’s wrong. I also have another RAM module in my new case and am torn between ordering more or returning the Vengeance LPX, since this will be the third RAM set I’ve tried.
I've tried several RAM kits without success, so I suspect the issue might be with the motherboard rather than the RAM itself. You mentioned checking all connections, but did you actually disconnect and reinsert them, or just inspect them? Ensure every connection to your motherboard is properly aligned—small misalignments can make pins appear connected when they're not. New Ryzen systems often require multiple boot cycles before stabilizing, as seen in a build I completed for a friend using the same CPU and motherboard; it took roughly 4 to 5 minutes for the initial start-up.
Are you verifying whether the RAM modules are included in the board's supported memory list? If not, the system won't function properly. However... The issue seems to be with the board itself, as both LEDs remain active. It’s possible the CPU LED turns on while the RAM LED activates during boot, though this is unlikely. While it’s possible the CPU is faulty, I’d still recommend checking the board first before considering the CPU. Still, if you decide to try a different set of sticks, make sure to verify the QVL support list for your board and choose a compatible one.
The issue persists with RAM errors despite using JEDEC standards for frequency, timings, and voltage. JEDEC specs are reliable guidelines for DDR4 RAM. I can provide photos of the entire assembly (including side panels, slots, and CPU area) if needed. My concern is a possible faulty motherboard—especially if the CPU appears intact with no damage or bent pins. Also, it seems this board doesn’t support automatic BIOS updates without physical access, such as via USB stick, even when RAM isn’t installed.
I removed and reattached every cable and plug, even those I didn’t think connected to the problem. The RAM I first ordered came with everything else, but Newegg recommended it when I added the CPU, so I thought it would fit. The LPX version appeared in several build guides I’ve seen, often paired with Ryzen 5 models from the third generation onward, which made me believe it would work too. I looked at both QVL listings and discovered a compatible set for both the CPU and Mobo, with two-day shipping scheduled but expected to arrive mid-next week. I can send you some photos of the case interior, though I’ve already repackaged the LPX RAM and it’s ready to ship. No matter what RAM is installed, the same PSC LED lights up.
I understand what JEDEC focuses on, but that doesn’t guarantee compatibility with your board. The user should share their experience and let me know if the updated set resolves the issue. If not, they can return the board and stop further discussion.
Alright. So I've got the G.skills TridentZ DDR4 installed which is listed on the QVL's for both the CPU and MoBo. Still seems to be doing the same thing. I'm gonna let it cycle a few times to see if it eventually posts but so far nothing on screen.
