Yes, the afterburner includes a firmware control mode option.

It seems the issue isn't with any external program, since Even Afterburner doesn't work.

did you apply the MSI afterburner configuration and navigate to the fan section, choosing manual mode if needed? otherwise, the GPU fans tend to behave as expected rather than according to your intentions.

You might want to check if any friends have time to test your GPU on their system and determine whether the problem persists. If it continues, it could indicate an RMA under warranty since it likely points to hardware concerns. It seems you've explored software fixes and are now considering a firmware update for the GPU.

I’m planning to use firmware instead of going through RMA, but I need to understand the process. How can I do that? The only recent updates I found are for DisplayPort and ReBAR GPUs.

Download and install the firmware immediately. Regarding the RMA, since no physical changes were made to the card, there should be no complications. They will test the card in a controlled environment and confirm if the fans are unresponsive to any adjustments, which would point to a hardware issue. It might just be a loose connector or something on the card under the shroud—you’d need to inspect it directly. Avoid an RMA unless necessary.

The information comes directly from NVIDIA's official site, which lists a Game Driver and Studio without any firmware details.

You'd need to visit the ASUS website, navigate to the support section for your GPU model, and check for any updates to the card. They may also offer an online tool that assesses your system and downloads necessary files. I personally use an MSI with a dedicated app; I run it periodically to stay current with improvements.
