I need assistance! I purchased a fresh router since my previous one was slow and unreliable. I made sure all cables were properly linked to the new device, but there’s no internet access. Diagnosing the Ethernet adapter shows it can’t find a valid IP setup. Oddly enough, connecting the internet cable straight to my PC without a router still fails to connect, yet using the old setup through the new router restores service. What’s happening? I’ve tried almost every fix I found online without success. Steps I’ve taken:
- Verified all connections
- Turned router on/off
- Reset the device
- Ran commands in Command Prompt and restarted
- Checked auto-configuration for IPv4/IPv6
- Reinstalled Windows
- Tested with another PC using the internet cable
The new TP-LINK-C1200 (from 2012) has an orange globe icon.

The modem is configured in bridged mode. You can verify by checking the old router's WAN settings. Use the IP address and subnet from there and apply them to the new router. This should reestablish your internet connection.

Have you informed your Internet Service Provider about your new connection? If not, then you need to...

It seems uncertain whether the router was replaced or if a new one was installed.

They’ll let you know what to do next, trust me—I had to go through this myself.

I mean I'm clarifying your question. Could you provide more details?
